【About Life in Japan】
Q I am worried about becoming homesick.
Leaving your home country for the first time and moving abroad may cause some degree of homesickness, but most of our students make friends at school, dormitory and at part-time jobs to relieve those feelings. In addition, there are school events and regional events, you can enjoy with others.
Q I am worried about my health.
Our school is equipped with a sick room and in case a student gets seriously sick, we connect him to a specialist. Fukushima City grants access to the national health insurance to all foreigners (insurance fee is about 1,900 yen per month.) 70% of your medical expenses are covered by the national health insurance, the personal burden is just 30%. In addition, as Fukushima Japanese School is insured against accidents (10,000 yen per year) the personal burden for accidents also is at only 30% (in case damage amounting to 3000 yen or more).
Q Do you have a dormitory?
Yes (Including rice cooker, cooking utensils, futon, bicycle and other articles of daily use). Our international students can move in. Apart from 80,000 yen for registration fee, the monthly rent is around 10,000 yen ~ 25,000 yen. Electricity, gas and water charges are charged separately based on the actual use.
Q Can I work part-time?
After obtaining permission for activities outside your status of residence from the Immigration Bureau, you can work part-time for up to 28 hours a week (40 hours during long holidays). The hourly wage is around 955 yen ~ 1,200 yen during daytime.
Q How high are the living expenses for one month?
There are individual differences in private expenses, but living will usually cost you less than 50,000 yen a month because transportation fees aren’t needed.
